A Miracle on Ice

Who can forget when the U.S. Hockey team won the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid?  By some miracle, the y defeated the Soviet team, who had won every world championship and Olympic tournament since 1954.  Then Team USA went onto secure the gold medal by winning the last match with Finland.  What a huge moment.
And who doesn’t remember that poignant moment when Jim Craig, the goaltender, skated around the rink, draped in the American flag, looking for his father in the audience to share this once-in-a-lifetime moment.
For whatever reason, I tuned into the game with Russia and was immediately swept away by the whole David and Goliath aspect of it.  Yes, it felt good when the upset victory occurred.  So I couldn’t miss the final leg of the journey to be rewarded by the gold medal win.  That was truly a sweet sweet moment, not to be forgotten.  That was 32 years ago.  Some of you weren’t even born when this happened.  Now that’s even harder to believe
